Clipping newborn nails can be anxiety inducing for the best of us. Luckily there are a few tools out there that not only help make it easier to care for your little one’s nails, but also takes the fear out of accidentally hurting your little ones finger! There are so many different methods for nail care, too. These products have innovated the way we can care for our children’s fingers and toes. There is an option for every parent’s preference - clippers, scissors or filing.
Here’s the deal: From the popular company BabyFrida, the company behind the parent favorite NoseFrida. The company is focused on creating easy to use solutions to lots of common baby problems - snot, gas, hangnails, cradle cap, you name it! The NailFrida clip & file are a great solution from an innovative company.
Weight: 1.6 oz
Love it: The clipping window is the selling point here. You can actually see where you are going to be cutting on those tiny little hands! The blades are also curved like baby scissors to clip more smoothly; this feature has mixed feedback but most parents see it as a plus.
Not so much: The angled blades function like scissors rather than traditional clippers and are angled - meaning they always start cutting from one side due to the design. Parents found this difficult to use when maneuvering wiggly fingers!
What are moms saying?: “The spy window is a game changer for nail trimming. It goes so quickly now that I can actually see what and where I am on my daughters nails - I’m not afraid of accidentally getting her skin or cutting to short anymore.” - Erin P.
“I have two toddlers and a newborn. These make it 100x easier to cut little fingers and toenails!” - Lauren
Bottomline: Great for helping take the fear out of nail trims, but the unique blades take some getting used to.

Here’s the deal: ZoLi was founded in 2009, originally creating sippy cups with weighted straws to help with the bottle to cup transition. In 2010, they came out with the first electric nail file. They are another innovative children’s brand, trying to help create solutions to common parent complaints.
Weight: 4.6 oz
Love it: The Buzz B file is battery powered and oscillates the soft file pads to gently file down down those sharp baby nails without fear that you will nick their fingers. It comes in a travel case with 4 different color-coded pads. Each pad color corresponds to a different age and the files get rougher for each stage to provide effective filing as the nails get harder.
Not so much: It can take a while to file down all of the nails, especially on older children and as the pads start getting worn down.
What are moms saying?: “I was so nervous about cutting my baby’s nails that I resorted to biting them once they fell asleep. When I heard about the ZoLi file I ran out and got it.” - Stephanie A.
Bottomline: A great item to have in your mom toolbox, especially for the newborn - 6 month stages; you’ll just have to set aside a little more time to get the results.
